Royalty Over the Rainbow Retreat

Join us March 20th-21st, 2009 in Solana Beach, California for the Royalty Over the Rainbow Retreat!! We'll be hosting our annual crop to benefit the Cancer Coping Center and the San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club.

The Cancer Coping Center, constitutes a group of professionals who volunteer their time and expertise in order to relieve the suffering of those afflicted with cancer by providing coping strategies for cancer patients, their family members and caregivers.

The San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club is a non-profit, youth development organization. Their goal is to provide every child with the essential tools needed for a successful and bright future.

Are you a good witch or a bad witch?

This event is going to be all about INSPIRATION and REWARD. The theme as you might have guessed is based on the "Wizard of Oz".

You will be "following the yellow brick road" and finding many treasures. You might find courage, through your efforts to fundraise, and you might find your heart as you spend 2 days with wonderful charitable people being rewarded for your efforts, and you might find your brain! Ha ha! I know I put mine here somewhere! Or you just might find your way home in a beautiful Wizard of Oz inspired project created for you by 5 Celebrity Designers all donating their time and creativity to reward you for selflessly giving.

Confirmed Celebrity Artists so far: Cheryl Waters from Fiskateers and Stampington & Co., Ana Cabrera from Northridge Media (Scrapbook Trends Magazine), and Margie Romney Aslet from The Girls Loft. Bring your iPod and help raise money.
Buy an hour of music for a $20 donation. Participants that make the donation will be able to play one hour of the music of their choice off their own iPod on an iPod dock that we will provide. We reserve the right to skip any inappropriate songs.

Is this economy hitting you hard? We totally get it and want $$ not to be the reason that anyone is not able to attend. We have a payment plan to help you pay the registration fee and lots of ways to help you raise the minimum $500 donation. If you choose, you can pay a non-refundable deposit of $55 within 10 days of registration and then the balance of $55 is due by Feb 14th. If you are not able to attend or do not pay you balance by the due date, your seat will be sold and your deposit will be donated to the charity.

Let us break it down for you:

If you start October 15th , you will have 155 days to raise $500. We will help you! There are a ton of ideas on the website but if you choose to, you can save the money yourself. You only need to save $3.20 (a Starbucks Drink) a day or $22 a week to reach this goal.

What could you cut out of your life that costs you that amount? Make the commitment and make a huge difference in the life of someone less fortunate than you. That is what SBR is all about...

Three easy ideas...

1. Ask 10 people for $25 that's $250 your half way there.

2. Host a garage sale- push your stuff out your door and watch the donations add up. We will be hosting a So Cal Garage Sale on December 5th. Check out the blog for details.

3. Give up coffee shop coffee!!! Bring your own coffee to work... this will get you there fast!

I know times are hard, this economy is hitting us all. Now is the time that we need to give a little more. Those people that needed help before, need help even more now. They have lost jobs, lost homes, dignity, the list goes on.

If we band together like the Dorothy, The Tin Man, The Scarecrow and Lion together we can reach my goal of $30,000 for these very worthy charities.

Scrapbookers are a unique group. They are sentimental, caring people who love to get together and crop! It is a natural fit for them to have a great time while raising money for charity. That being said, we are taking donations of hand made items to add to the silent auction.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE REGISTERED PARTICIPANT TO CONTRIBUTE! Everyone is welcome to donate. Anything hand made qualifies. It can be a mini book, a necklace, a scarf… the possibilities are endless. Get creative and get recognized for your creativity!

Cropping Out Autism - A Success!

This past weekend Crop Out Autism in Franklin, IN raised $600 to benefit the Johnson County Autism Support Group!

The mission of the Johnson County Autism Support Group is to provide support to families affected by autism and to assist in providing financial assistance for professional therapies for their autistic children.

Autism is a complex developmental disability that typically appears during the first three years of life. The result of a neurological disorder that affects the functioning of the brain, autism impacts the normal development of the brain in the areas of social interaction and communication skills. Children and adults with autism typically have difficulties in verbal and non-verbal communication, social interactions, and leisure or play activities.

Thank you to everyone who attended this event and made it a success!

This past weekend was WORLD CARD MAKING DAY, a perfect time to create some

Cards for the Troops!

Every year we launch a campaign to collect handmade greeting cards for our military serving overseas. You send us blank handmade cards, we send them to the troops. They then fill out the cards with a message for their loved ones and send them home in time for the holidays. Cards and paper are hard to come by in combat zones and these cards mean alot to these soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors, officers, and their families during the holidays.

Here's all the details for submitting your cards to our Cards For Troops Campaign this year:

Requirements:

1. Cards must come with envelopes. Tip: buy the envelopes first and make the cards to fit inside.
2. Cards should be shipped with the back of the card inside the envelope and the front of the card outside the envelope (half in, half out). This makes it easier for them to look at the cards, to choose which they like and helps keep the envelopes together with the macthing card. If you get creative and there is not a way to put the cards 1/2 in and 1/2 out, then please ship them in clear bags, or envelopes so they don't get separated. Tip: www.clearbags.com sells clear envelopes that are inexpensive and a great way to send us your cards.If you buy from them and enter our group code CP1010, they will donate 5% of your purchases to Scrapbook Royalty.
3. Cards should be rectangle and up to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 will ship for regular postage. Tip: square envelopes cost extra to send.
4. If you decorate the front with 3d embellishments or chunky glitter, it helps to include a blank piece of paper to place on the front of the cards to protect it when shipping.

Come join us for a day of cropping and fun. We will have fun Make-n-Takes during the day as well as a prize given for the person that comes dressed in the most pink baseball gear! We will feed you breakfast, lunch and snacks. Drinks will also be available throughout the day. We will be raising money to benefit Kommah Seray Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation. in support of their mission to support women affected by Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC).

The purpose of the Kommah Seray Inflammatory Breast Cancer Foundation is to raise awareness of Inflammatory Breast Cancer. The foundation will meet the immediate needs of active cancer patients by providing assistance and support. Additionally, the foundation will work toward educating medical staff on how to detect Inflammatory Breast Cancer.

Symptoms of Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC)?
Inflammatory breast cancer does not necessarily have a defined lump. Typically, this type of breast cancer grows as nests or sheets within or around the breast area. Often the symptoms for IBC are mistaken for a rash and/or infection of some sort and in some cases, it has been diagnosed as an abnormal cyst. To learn more, please go to www.ksibcf.org.

Join us for a Silent Auction and Crop!

Please join us, for a day of fun for all. You can do any craft at this event from knitting and beading to card making to stamping and scrapbooking.We will be having a Silent Auction and cropping for 12 hours!! We are currently accepting donations of your handmade items to sell during the auction. Elena from Scrapbook Royalty will be joining us to crown the "Queen of Crafts" for the item that raises the most money for the charity!

Elena will also have 2 Cannon photo printers to print photos for everyone. Scrapbook Royalty will also be giving out Fairy Fly Bys!!!

This past weekend Scrapbook Royalty helped three Scrap Pink events across the United States almost 3000 for Scrap Pink and Komen for the Cure!!

ScrapPink in Dutch Flat raised $400

Erin Bassett lives in Southern California with her husband, a Golden Retriever, and a very fat cat. She is a craft addict who loves to combine different crafts into one project and writes a blog about all the different things she creates. Celebrate World Card Making Day by Giving Back!

Today is the 4th annual World Card Making Day -- what will you do to celebrate? It just so happens that Scrapbook Royalty has launched our third annual Cards for the Troops Campaign this year. We're collecting handmade cards for the troops through November 1.

We're collecting Cards for the Troops again!! Please check out this BLOG POST for info about our Cards for Troops Campaign, share it on your blog, and donate some cards. We'd be eternally grateful!!

Here are some ideas for creating cards as well as ways to enjoy this special World Card Making Day (and maybe even make some cards for the troops!):

Take a bag of scraps to a crop or cardmaking event and create cards from 100% scraps. Pam Hoffman, one of our committee members, can create something from even the smallest scraps, even from pieces cropped from photos!

• Try punching shapes from small scraps then saving the shapes in mini baggies until you're ready to use them.
  
• Layer strips on the front of a card to cover it and create an interesting effect.
• Create cards with the scraps leftover from a layout you just created -- you won't have to put anything away and you'll get a lot more mileage from your patterned paper.
• Punch borders from long thin strips of paper in your stash. Use the on cards like I did below.
• Photo scraps have cool textures and the glossy or matte finish is a nice alternative to flat cardstock. Punch shapes from these scraps to use on your cards.
  

I created the cards below earlier this year at a Christmas in July cardmaking get-together. I used 100% scraps on the cards (except the card base & some ribbons). I simply brought my red and green scrap bags with me and used the items inside to create the cards. My scraps are overflowing, once again, and what better way to "get rid of them" than to use them on Christmas cards to donate to the troops!

Gather some friends for a little coffee, cards, and fun! Here are some ideas to make the most your get-together:

• Set aside one out of every 5 cards you create to donate to the troops.
• Potluck it!
• Bring your favorite stamps out to share--if everyone brings their stamps you can save money by sharing ;) Also share inks, diecuts, and punches.
  
• Have a challenge! See who can create the most cards in an hour. Or create a challenge kit and see who can create the most cards from the kit you give each person. Give out a prize every time the group creates 10 cards total.

Crafting on your own? Here are some ideas to have fun and create a lot of cards:

• Craft in front of the TV, watching your favorite show. I recently cut and scored 100 cards watching "So You Think You Can Dance!"
• Involve the family. Maybe Dad won't be into it but in the safety of your own home, you never know! My husband crafts ;) Instead of watching TV or doing game night, create cards for the troops or for you to send out during Christmas.
• Assembly line it. Create a sample. Once you know what you need to create your cad, create an assembly line. Stamp images one day, color them or cut them out the next day. Cut and score card bases one day, stamp the back with your signature or a cute tag line the next. Working for about 10-30 minutes each night, you can easily create over 100 cards in a week. Not to mention the therapeutic value of crafting that you're getting for free!
• Passing out Halloween Candy later this month? Create cards between batches of Trick or Treaters.
• Carpool or ride the train to work? Create cards during your commute. Or try creating during your lunch break at work--recruit a few co-workers to create cards in the break room.
• Visit a Convalescent Hospital or Assisted Living Facility. Ask if you can make some cards with the patients or residents. They'll enjoy the attention and crafting time and you'll get a lot of cards done for the troops!

World Card Making Day - This Weekend!

Every year we launch a campaign to collect handmade greeting cards for our military serving overseas. You send us blank handmade cards, we send them to the troops. They then fill out the cards with a message for their loved ones and send them home in time for the holidays. Cards and paper are hard to come by in combat zones and these cards mean alot to these soldiers, airmen, marines, sailors, officers, and their families during the holidays.

What will 2009 bring??!?!?!?!?!?

So far we have already collected over 100 cards at this weekend's Cupcakes For A Cure Scrap Pink Crop in Hesperia, CA!! How many cards can you create? Here's all the details for submitting your cards to our Cards For Troops Campaign this year:

Requirements:

1. Cards must come with envelopes. Tip: buy the envelopes first and make the cards to fit inside.
2. Cards should be shipped with the back of the card inside the envelope and the front of the card outside the envelope (half in, half out). This makes it easier for them to look at the cards, to choose which they like and helps keep the envelopes together with the macthing card. If you get creative and there is not a way to put the cards 1/2 in and 1/2 out, then please ship them in clear bags, or envelopes so they don't get separated. Tip: www.clearbags.com sells clear envelopes that are inexpensive and a great way to send us your cards.If you buy from them and enter our group code CP1010, they will donate 5% of your purchases to Scrapbook Royalty.
3. Cards should be rectangle and up to 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 will ship for regular postage. Tip: square envelopes cost extra to send.
4. If you decorate the front with 3d embellishments or chunky glitter, it helps to include a blank piece of paper to place on the front of the cards to protect it when shipping.

We're kicking off this year's Campaign with some make n takes!!

Jennifer Priest, our Creative Director, will be touring Southern California scrapbook stores on World Card Making Day teaching a Prima Certified make n take:



This World Card Making Day let's get a little and give a little. Jennifer will be touring So Cal, visiting scrapbook stores with her "traveling art bar" of Prima goodies all weekend!

Create 4 handmade cards for $10 using Prima's new e-line of embellishments plus their always fabulous papers, stamps, and lace! We'll play a little with Copics and Quickutz as well. After you create your 4 cards, you're welcome to create as many cards as you like, using the supplies from Jennifer's art bar, to donate to the troops. Jennifer will collect the cards as the day goes along and donate them all to Scrapbook Royalty's Cards for Troops Campaign. You can create the cards for as long as she is at each store so don't miss out!!

Just show up--no need to call and sign up. You can also bring cards you've made at home to donate to the troops. Please join Jennifer in making some cards, learning some fun techniques, and in "giving back" creatively ;)! Plus since it's a Prima class, she will have prizes!!

Can't make it to the make n takes?
Here are some ideas for creating & collecting cards:

• Consultants-- host a card making night for your customers! Have them make one, then take one. Or have each of your downline donate 5 cards!
• Gather your friends together on World Card Making Day for a mini crop. Create your own holiday cards, setting aside every 5th card to donate.
• Go through your scrap bin and create cards. See how many cards you can create essentially "for free"!
• Scout Leaders and Teachers--take some basic supplies to class or to your next meeting have each of the children create a card for the troops. You'll have have 30-50 cards in no time!
• Ask your Local Scrapbook Store (LSS) if you can host a card making crop or make n take day.
  
• Encourage your LSS or the hostess of the crops or retreats you attend to challenge the participants to create cards. Nan Paturzo recently MC'd Scrapbook Royalty's Scrap Pink crop and gave a goodie to the next 5 people who brought her 5 cards in an hour.
