Friends of Scott is a San Diego charity who helps children coping with cancer. Every year they organize a wonderful "prom" night for the children they help. This year, Scrapbook Royalty was proud to be a part of this heart warming, special evening celebrating these children.
Here's the story, form Elena's personal blog:
Yep, Melanie and I were Julie’s dates to the Unforgettable Prom for Kids affected by Cancer. This is a yearly event put on by Friends of Scott Foundation, run by Carmen who lost her son Scott to cancer.
The kids arrived in style in Limos from the hospital. They looked like Princesses and Princes! This year there were 75 kids plus their dates. While they were dancing and having a blast you could not tell which ones had cancer. They were just kids having fun. They ranged in age from 12-19 and at first that seemed strange to me till it was explained that some of themwould not see their prom and some were to sick to attend their own prom so it really is a special thing for them.
We spent the first hour finishing the 150 frames that the Scrapbook Royalty volunteers had made for each child. It was hilarious to be in our fancy dresses on the floor with glue sticks! They turned out great though and really made the goody bag fun. We were in charge of handing out the goody bags at the end of the night and in the bright lights of the lobby you could see the kids that had thinning hair or pale faces. Some had IVs in their arms. It was really moving to see them so young and dealing with cancer. It made me want to do more for this great charity.
Thank you so much to everyone who helped us to decorate the frames we gave out for this event! It is so special and will be something these children will remember forever.
