Guest Blogger: Laura Bray

Hi! I'm Laura Bray, also known as katydiddys.

When Elena asked me to be a Scrapbook Royalty guest a blogger, I was so honored!

Since it's summer party time, I thought I would share a tutorial for creating custom party table setting using your scrapbook supplies.

I don't know about you, but I often buy paper and embellishments and then don't want to use them because they are too pretty.

I've found that using the supplies to set a party table really help me overcome my reluctance to use my treasure supplies.

So here's a video on just how to create a table setting. (P.S. I filmed the video this Spring for the PBS show Creative Living with Sheryl Borden. The episode will air sometime in 2011.)

To celebrate my guest spot on the Scrapbook Royalty blog today, I'm hosting a giveaway!

Felt Bakery Coasters

Simply leave a comment on this blog post and we'll draw a name at the end of week to win a set of my Felt Bakery Coasters!

I'm also donating 10% of my Etsy Shop sales made this week to Scrapbook Royalty!

Pop over to my shop and see what I have to offer!

GoodSearch is... GOOD!

Are you doing any research online? Perhaps you open up a google page one or more times a day?

Well, you can get your research done AND send some cash love to Scrapbook Royalty - all at once!

How cool is that?

Just change your typing a little bit... when you start the g-o-o, keep going with a -d-s-e-a-r-c-h and you might not even have to do that much typing!

I watch my keystrokes and with a modern browser, you could type in 'good' (once you've been there) and get a drop down giving you options, so pick goodsearch.com from the list and save some typing!

BE SURE TO...

Be sure to select Scrapbook Royalty (San Diego, CA) as your charity of choice and we'll get a little bit of green to help us keep working as an organization to help bring crafters and charities together!

I've been testing out the search engine and it works pretty darn well. I do a LOT of research online on any given day for all sorts of things. Are you like that too?

I was actually a little bit nervous about going to a different search engine. And when I saw powered by "Yahoo!" I thought I would never get the kinds of results I wanted..

I was totally wrong.

Once upon a time, search engines did different things and the "Yahoo!" type was a directory type of search engine... That wasn't going to work for most of my online research at all!

I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that my goodsearch.com search results were JUST AS GOOD! as my google search results. They were practically identical in fact!

I must tell you though that only certain searches on goodsearch.com will qualify as searches which pay out to Scrapbook Royalty.

The ones you do under the tab labeled "Web" will power the contributions to Scrapbook Royalty. The others seem to bring back with the results a small-print message letting you know that 'these searches' don't qualify!

And another caution, they clearly state: "Please use this site honestly. Fraudulent searches will result in your charity being delisted." which makes me a little nervous because I don't know exactly what that really means!

Because of that, I don't leave the goodsearch.com tab open all the time like I usually do and I don't search for certain topics I'm not entirely clear are considered PG I guess you might say...

If I am doing a LOT of research at any given time, I'll transfer to a google search page after a little while. This is all very 'normal' for me. I'm just NOT SURE what they consider 'normal' usage so I'm quite conservative in my use sometimes of this particular search engine.

I do like it when they serve up links to items you can purchase with a little message stating that making a purchase that way will be additional benefit to our organization.

Overall, it's a very good way to get your work done and give to Scrapbook Royalty and I'm ever so happy to help any way I can - when it's this painless, why the heck not?

Got Research? GoTo: goodsearch.com!

Pam Hoffman

p.s. still shopping for the holidays? pick goodsearch.com and we'll get a piece of that action too!

Have YOU Ever Been Treated Like Royalty?

Elena, Founder of SBR

I knew that SBR events were good... I didn't realize HOW good until last week when I attended my very first one!

Oh, you read the descriptions (though they missed telling us they provided dinner too last week!) and you see the pretty pictures...

What you DON'T realize is all that you actually get OUT of a Scrapbook Royalty Event.

If you are anywhere near an event, have the time and the means to go, DO IT!

I had a chance last Saturday when I drove down to Operation Showers of Appreciation Crop, Vista CA.

What a great charity. Kimberly Felshaw started this a couple of years ago to assist military families expecting a child.

"They host baby showers and help pregnant miliary families
with supplies to get them started." ~from Elena's blog

Elena & Kimberly demo the "Dick & Jane" quilt

OH, the picture reminds me, there is Another Fun Way to help OSOA thru SBR - pick up a chance to win the quilt in the picture. Details on the site when you click on the link (above).

Anyway, there were goodies at my table when I got there (and they were very NICE goodies too!). They had munchies & drinks right from the start and just kept them coming all day long!

If you go away hungry, it's your own d#@m fault!

They kicked things off with a class by Leah Fung. I know of her from the magazine Scrapooks, Etc. and the class was fabulous. Leah is so enthusiastic and cheerful. And she explains the process so very well, making time to come around to individuals who need extra help.

All That Energy! Leah Fung

All the materials for Leah's class were donated by Making Memories and there were A LOT of them! I saw things I never even knew existed before.

It was a wonderful way to get started at a crop.

I'm wondering if that is why I felt more productive than usual at a 12 hour crop last week... of course I had a LIST to work from too! :)

After the class, I played around with decorating the very cool photo banner taught by Leah. And I got some work done on the projects I brought with me too.

One of the best things you get out of an event like this is that you meet all sorts of people you didn't know before. And when you meet new people, you always get some new ideas from being around them.
The Lovely Ladies at My Table!
There was a Silent Auction and lemme tell you! There were some fabulous items for auction on those tables.

Beauties All! Our Very Own Elena & Sheila with the young ladies

Patricia, channeling a Fairy

And the BEAUTY! Two very lovely young girls were all dressed up, they greeted us and participated in the class and provided beautiful examples of great young people giving of their time for a great cause. The Fairy Flybys were carried out by a volunteer from the group: Patricia and we got some delicious buttons from Blumenthal.

It's almost overwhelming - in a very good way!

Pink Pineapple Scrapbooks was the host store and a very cute one too (another 'first' for me!). Even the bathroom was neat! I did a little shopping (a % of the store sales were donated to OSOA too!) I wish I could have found more of the things I was looking for there, I would have bought them too!

I had more pictures, they were pretty fuzzy so the best ones made it in this post for you!

There are a LOT of perks when you attend a Scrapbook Royalty event.

At THIS event, there were goodies when I walked in, a Fairy Flyby, food galore, lots of space on which to crop, a well lit area and beautiful 'Royal' decor. The AC that day was very welcome! I had time to work on projects and I met some lovely new people, had a chance to give to a wonderful charity in so many ways and I had a whole store to shop from!

Part of The 'Royal' Decor - so fun

Why don't YOU come out for The Royal Treatment!?! You'll be glad you did!
