Remember the Summer Safety Giveaway we were doing?? We used Random.Org to choose the winner:

The Winner is:
Melissa Fiskateer #2396 said...

Thanks for posting this, Jennifer. It is a good reminder to drink, drink, drink -- a tip I need to heed. I should know better than to go too long w/o drinking water while out in the sun. When I was a teenager, I got heatstroke and was taken to the emergency room with 108 fever!

Congrats!! Please email us at scrapbookroyalty@yahoo.com with your shipping address so we can send your Beach Bag full of goodness out!! Thanks to everyone who commented and shared their summer safety tips. And a special thank you to Mommy Docs for sponsoring the giveaway.

What a Fabulous Weekend!

Scrapbook Royalty fundraises at our own events and affiliate events for various charities but that isn't all we do. Our volunteer committee has been busy raising money for worthy causes by conducting raffles, teaching make-n-takes, and holding silent auctions at various scrapbooking events across the western United States these past few weeks and in the upcoming month!

Scrapbook Royalty committee member Jennifer Priest and daughter Katie headed over to Desert Scrappers Retreats in Palm Desert, California on Saturday afternoon. Jennifer taught a few classes and passed out free passes to ScrapFest while Katie raffled off three baskets in the main crop room. A special thank you to Laura of Desert Scrappers for inviting us to another one of her fabulous events--we raised over $165 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation! Katie also deserves recognition for the wonderful job she did running the raffle!

Scrapbook Royalty committee member Liz Crain and daughter Alexis appeared at Scrapbook District in Escondido, California on Saturday as well. They conducted a silent auction and Fairy Lexi passed out fairy fly-bys. Look at how cute Lexi is!!!

Filling out auction forms:

The Fairy Flying by!

Together Liz and Lexi raised $45 for Autism Speaks by selling raffle tickets for the Arietta Pullip doll (see our blog for details). The silent auction raised $210 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation as well!!

For more info on where we'll be fundraising next, please check out our event calendar.

Search and Shop....and Raise Money for Scrapbook Royalty!!

Have you heard of GoodSearch? Or GoodShop?

Both of these sites help charities raise money for operating costs, events, services, and more. And guess what? Scrapbook Royalty is now regsitered with BOTH!!

Here is how it works:

  1. Go to GoodSearch or GoodShop.
  2. In the box where it says "Who Do You Good Search for" (in the middle of the page) enter "Scrapbook Royalty".
  3. Now start searching! Just use GoodSearch to search the web as you usually would and each time you search, Scrapbook Royalty earns money. GoodSearch is connected to Yahoo so you will get the same links as you would if you were just searching using Yahoo, except that now you're helping chairty!
  4. You only have to enter "Scrapbook Royalty" once and GoodSearch will save it for you so that everytime you search you are helping Scrapbook Royalty.
GoodShop works the same way. Just enter the charity and then select the store at which you'd like to shop. Each online store donates a different percentage of your sale to Scrapbook Royalty - and GoodShop lists them all so you know exactly how much you are helping.

So what exactly are we raising money for anyways?

Scrapbook Royalty has to have a place to store all of the great decorating supplies, prizes, sponsors' donations of products, furniture and display pieces, and more that we use to make our fundraising events fabulous. We have it all in a safe storage building but this building is costing us $1884 a year to rent!

We have 1700+ people on our newsletter emailing list. If just 500 of them joined GoodSearch and did one search a day for a few months (just doing your usual searching) we'd have enough money to pay for the storage building for the year!

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

So go to GoodSearch and GoodShop now to get started! And thank you for your support.

Auction for A Place to Bark

The "Blythe and Friends" book, pictured above, contains 25 hand-made, front and back, 4" x 4" original mixed media art pages as well as handmade front and back covers, from artists in nine states and three countries.

Created by the Arte du Blythe group on Yahoo, which was founded by
Shoshanah Jennings of Hannah Grey Curiosities & Drygoods
(www.hannahgrey.com) and Heather Simpson-Bluhm of Bluhm Studios
(http://www.bluhmstudios.com), both based in California. The book was
hosted by Gina Smith, group administrator, in Indiana. It features work
by well-known and published artists such as Vicky Breslin, Debbie Metti,
Angela Hoffman, Chelise Stroud-Hery (founder of ZNE), Shelly Mundel,
Maija Lepore, Heather Simpson-Bluhm, and Shoshanah Jennings. Artists
from the United States, Canada, and Israel sent submissions.

The book is a paper arts lover's dream or is perfect for a lover of Blythe, animals, dolls and/or good deeds.

A Place to Bark and Meow is mixed media artist Bernie Berlin's no-kill animal rescue in Tennessee. Bernie Berlin's blog is http://aplacetobark.blogspot.com. As she herself says, "I run a full-time dog rescue, taking in the dogs that have been abandoned, abused or police confiscated. I foster, retrain, transport & adopt. Cats are also welcome at my rescue. I am drawn to the unwanted, unloved and misunderstood. I am hoping to educate and effect change for the animals that do not have a voice of their own."

A Place to Bark and Meow was one of the five top national finalists in last year's Parade magazine charity profile/fund-raiser. To date 2,453 people have donated $44,527 to AP2B, but the needs are constant as Bernie travels to other states to rescue abandoned, abused and injured animals, rehabilitating them (often with costly veterinary bills and medicines) and then placing them in loving homes.

Bernie currently specializes in Faberge-style eggs and is the author of the popular Artist Trading Card Workshop. She will send a special surprise to be enclosed with the 'fat book' for the winner.

Auction ends October 15th so bid now!! Simply leave a comment in the comments section of our Auction Blog. All proceeds from the auction will be donated to A Place to Bark.

Cards for Troops Campaign **updated 9-18-08**

This year we are once again collecting cards for our Cards for Troops Campaign!! Last year we collected over 1500 handmade greeting cards from around the country and sent them to www.bluestarmothers.com, an organization that makes sure these cards reach actual soldiers serving overseas. The soldiers then use these cards to write home to family and friends during the holidays.

This year we are doing it again and we need your help!
Gunnery Sergeant Remi Rodriguez of the United States Marine Corps is working with us to get these cards distributed to the hard working men and women overseas defending our country. We are sending the cards directly to the troops ourselves so that gives us a bit more time to get them made and sent over. A simple handmade card, blank inside, will do just perfectly. Here are some photos of the cards we collected during our Card Drive in 2007 -- WOW!!

Here are some tips for getting a few cards made for the soldiers:

  • Create a few extra cards as you make your own--for example, for every 3 cards you make for yourself, make one card to donate.
  • Use your scraps from last year's Christmas layouts and cards (cuz I know you're still saving them) to create a few cards. This way you can also take part in some guilt free shopping afterwards when you buy this year's hottest holiday papers.
  • Go buy that new paper and just have fun creating some cards for the soldiers with it.
  • Ask your friends to help. If you're having a crop or go to one at a store, ask everyone to take 5 minutes to create one card.
  • Have the kids help. Scout troops and elementary school classes love doing these kinds of activities. Set up the supplies assembly line style and get everyone to pitch in. Last year several groups of children made cards for the troops.
  • Buy a kit--some stores and consultants sell card kits--just buy one and assemble all the cards and send them to us for the troops.
  • Take a class. Ask the instructor if you can buy extra cards or kits to make the assembly easy.
  • If you are a consultant hold a card-making party! Have your guests make one card for themselves and one for the troops as part of your demonstration.
Do not forget to include the envelopes!!!
Consider buying the envelopes first so you can make sure your cards will fit.

We must receive the cards by November 1, 2008 in order to have time to forward them to the troops overseas.

Once you've created your cards, send them (with matching envelopes) directly to:

Scrapbook Royalty
Cards for Troops
PO Box 910665
San Diego, CA 92191

We'll then photograph all of the cards and post them to our blog.
